Go Where No One Else Thinks to Go

ok so like.. everyone goes to paris, bali, nyc… but like sometimes following everyone is just boring right? like i saw 1000 people taking selfies at the eiffel tower, i was like “meh, maybe tomorrow”. i found this tiny village in portugal… cant even remember the name lol… maybe monsanto? idk… and it was like stepping inside one of those medieval paintings on pinterest. no tourists, just me, stray cats, and these old locals staring at me like i was some alien. it was weird, but like… magical in a way.

seriously tho, the best memories usually come from doing the stuff you didnt plan. like wandering into a place where you cant even speak the language, eating random street snacks that look… questionable, but somehow are amazing. sometimes i almost throw up… sometimes i cry from happiness… either way it sticks with you. people on insta never see it but thats the fun part, trust me.

Sleep Somewhere That Makes You Question Life

hotels are comfy yes, but like also kinda boring sometimes. try a treehouse, a lighthouse, a converted church.. idk… something that makes you go “wait im sleeping HERE?”. i stayed in this lighthouse once, climbed those spiral stairs at 3am, legs screaming, just to pee lol. but man the view in the morning? worth every sore muscle.

also staying in weird places makes you meet locals in a way hotels never do. like that lighthouse guy taught me to catch fish. now im obsessed with fish tacos. true story. or maybe not entirely true but you get the point.

Adventures… but like weird ones

you dont need to jump out of planes or climb everest to remember stuff. sometimes the odd things stick more. like theres a place in japan where you can sip tea with owls. owls!!! sounds stupid right? but its actually kinda amazing. or abandoned factories/towns… scary, yes… but fun. once went to this abandoned railway station in india cause some blogger said “cool pics” … almost broke my ankle and got chased by a goat. but wow.. the photos and story? priceless.

Eat Weird Stuff

food is huge part of traveling, duh. but not just fancy restaurants. im talking street food, tiny joints where u dont know what ur eating and chef probably hates tourists. like in thailand i had pad thai from some cart… almost threw up later but also… BEST PAD THAI EVER. so worth it.

sometimes u just stumble on these hidden places locals go. like in france near lyon, this bakery had almond croissants that… i cant explain… life changing maybe? ok maybe not life changing but def memorable.

Move Differently

planes and trains are boring sometimes. try tuk-tuks, tiny fishing boats, even walking. once rowed a boat in greece by myself thinking “yeah i can navigate by stars” … no. got lost. locals laughed at me. sunset was insane tho. walking is underrated, seriously… you see little alleys, street musicians, murals… stuff u miss in cars and buses.

People Make Travel Better

honestly some of the best memories are ppl you meet, not just places. like in budapest i met a canadian guy, he convinced me to go to midnight thermal bath… yes naked in winter… hilarious. became friends. or random locals giving u weird nicknames cause u butchered their language trying to order coffee… priceless memories.

Ok, but seriously

offbeat travel isnt about checklists or perfect pics. its about getting lost, eating questionable food, sleeping in weird places, meeting random ppl, laughing a lot, maybe almost crying… ok maybe crying too. if your trip doesnt leave you with a story that makes u go “wait that happened??” then maybe try the weird stuff next time.

so next trip, ditch the guides, ignore crowds, follow your gut. u might end up somewhere u never planned and u probably wont forget it.
